Resolutions 2020!

Ring out the old, ring in the new Tennyson

A happy new year 2020 to all you lovely readers. It’s that time of the year when you are scampering to write-up your list of resolutions. You are all geared up and set to leave your old self behind. With your hopes high, you want to jump the horse from day one and start working towards your goal—start maintaining a healthy weight, have a better work-life balance, or probably quit smoking. However, in all of this, we often neglect our vaginal and intimate health. Considering this, we decided to come up with some recommendations that you can add to your resolutions for 2020

  1. Age is just a number: Whether you are 20 or 50 or older, your vaginal and intimate health is important. There is no age at which vaginal laxity or bladder incontinence is “normal”. Start listening to your body. If something does not feel right, it is not. Pay heed to your symptoms.
  2. Let’s start with the diet: What you eat is what your body reflects. Eating a varied diet keeps your body strong and your vagina and bladder healthy. Check out our post on foods you should eat this holiday season
  3. Vitamins: Vitamins and minerals don’t only affect your skin and bones; they affect your vagina too. Regular intake of vitamin-rich food and supplements help with regular blood flow and reduce vaginal dryness.
  4. Water and more water: Water is a miracle drink to help relieve many vaginal and bladder problems. Drinking less water does not help with bladder control. On the contrary, it only makes the urine concentrated and irritates the bladder, worsening bladder incontinence. Instead, drink water at appropriate times, and help your bladder develop a routine. Add citrus fruits and herbs to make your glass of water interesting and healthier.

On the contrary, it only makes the urine concentrated and irritates the bladder, worsening bladder incontinence. Instead, drink water at appropriate times, and help your bladder develop a routine. Add citrus fruits and herbs to make your glass of water interesting and healthier.
  6. Hold the shot glass: Alcohol increases the frequency and urges to empty the bladder. If it is not a trigger for the bladder, you can still have an occasional glass of wine.
  7. Dress the part (when you work out): Kegels are a must-do exercise for stronger pelvic muscles. However, make sure that your work-out underwear is well-fitted and made with breathable fabrics. Wear a padded underwear or shorts when doing high-intensity exercises like spin-cycling to avoid numbness or bruising of the vagina. Or you have an option to go completely without a pad with the help of a simple 45 minute Non-Surgical
  8. Change after you work out: Vaginal hygiene is one of the pillars of good vaginal health. Change out of your work-out gear as soon as you can and clean your vaginal area to prevent infections and dryness.
  9. Posture matters: Slouching can put excessive pressure on the bladder. Maintaining an upright posture can help to reduce the feeling of “urgency” in bladder incontinence.
  10. Feel the pleasure: After childbirth, many women assume that its “normal” to not feel any pleasure when being intimate with your partner. However, postpartum sex can have many beneficial effects on your mental and emotional well-being.
  11. Discuss with your partner: Your partner is not a mind-reader and for a healthy relationship, you must discuss your needs with your partner. It may seem a little uncomfortable or awkward at first, but once you open up, you will be glad you did.
  12. Your child is not an excuse: Many first-time mothers feel guilty to make time for themselves instead of committing all their time to their child. A healthy sexual relationship helps build harmony between your partner and you and fosters a nurturing environment for your child.
  13. New is not scary: Post pregnancy, a great way to build up intimacy is by trying something new in your sex life. Whether it’s leaving each other notes or trying a different time of the day to get intimate, don’t let the fear stop you from a new adventure.
  14. Experiment: Now that you are trying something new, adult toys can be a great way to spice up your sex life. Use vagina-friendly materials to prevent infections and vaginal dryness.
  15. Lube it out: If you have reduced sensation or lubrication, lubricants are a safe and effective technique to increase intimate pleasure. Stick to medically approved, water-based and fragrance-free lubricants.
  16. You know best: No one knows your pleasure points more than you. Take charge of your sexual well-being and adore your body. Pleasuring yourself has a plethora of benefits and you never know which one you might discover.
  17. Massages: After your pregnancy or any time of the year, massages from a certified masseuse can be a great way to relieve strained Massages can also help reduce some symptoms of bladder incontinence.
  18. Treat infections promptly: Even though you practice safe sex and good vaginal hygiene, a pestering bacterial or fungal infection sometimes sneaks in. It is important to not ignore it and take the necessary medical precautions on time.
  19. Don’t suffer in silence: Did you know that 50 % of women with bladder leakage also have sexual dysfunction, including vaginal laxity? You are not alone with these symptoms. Take steps in the right direction and see a specialist.
  20. Seek help: If you suffer from the symptoms of bladder incontinence or vaginal laxity, appropriate medical attention can set things right.
